K2 BC & Gondogoro La Trek Karakoram Range Pakistan.

K2 BC Trekking 2023- 2024

Trekking to K2 BC Pakistan 2023- 2024

K2 BC & Gondogoro la is considered to be one of the world’s great treks with breathtaking scenery unsurpassed anywhere else in the high mountains. The journey starts with a flight to Skardu with spectacular views of the Karakoram range including Nanga Parbat, after several nights in Skardu we take jeep transport to the road head at Askole.

The trail is lined with rugged mountains all the way from the last village in the Braldu gorge at Askole up the Baltoro glacier to Concordia, you will see the Trango Towers, Masherbrum, K2 and Broad Peak among many others. Concordia has been described as the “Throne Room of the Gods” for its unique 360° panorama of 7,000m mountains and impressive views of K2.

After a few days time exploring K2 and Broad Peak Base Camps, we start the challenging trek out over the Gondogoro La and descend into the beautiful Hushe valley. If you think the crossing of the Gondogoro La is going to be too challenging for you, we offer an option to descend the Baltoro glacier back to Askole.

This is one of the greatest treks in the world, unbeatable in terms of close-up mountain views and proximity to many of the world’s highest peaks. However this is a tough but rewarding trek, with many days being spent on the rugged, tumbled glacier as you head up to ‘Concordia’ where the Baltoro and the Godwin-Austen glaciers converge in a beauty and simplicity of ice and rock. Many trekking operators only include a trek up to BC on a day return but Adventure Peaks takes you on up past Broad Peak to K2 Base Camp where we spend a night, allowing you time to absorb the unique atmosphere and environment surrounding this unforgettable mountain. Conditions permitting, we return via the spectacular Gondogoro La (5600m), a dramatic high col that affords further stunning views of not only the Gasherbrum peaks but also Broad Peak, K2 and the Muztagh Tower. The return to civilisation is down the Hushe valley, passing the extremely photogenic and arrow-like Leila Peak.

This epic adventure to K2 Base Camp (5,400m) is one of the world’s most iconic trekking expeditions. Rather than take the normal out-and-back route, we take the trail less travelled. After we reach K2 Base Camp we cross the Gondogoro La pass (5,585m) and finish our trek in the Hushe Valley. This maximises our time and experience in the Karakoram.

Located on the border between China and Pakistan, K2 (8,611m) is the world’s second highest mountain. It is considered to be one of the toughest mountains to climb in the world due to its extreme height, the technical route and the extreme weather common in the Karakoram.

The K2 Base Camp trek is made special by the epic scenery throughout our journey up the Baltoro Glacier, with more mountains coming into view the further we travel. The highlight of the trek is reaching Concordia which is the confluence of the mighty Baltoro and Godwin-Austen Glaciers. Known as the “Throne Room of the Mountain Gods” You are rewarded with a stunning panoramic view. The view includes more than 40 peaks over 6,500m in height, four of which are over 8,000m.

This 24-day journey includes 14 days of trekking and is suitable for experienced and adaptable trekkers. You’ll need a strong sense of adventure and an appreciation for remote areas. It is a camping trek which is fully supported by our team of friendly porters from Baltistan region.

Security in Pakistan

At Earth’s Edge, we feel it is safe to trek to K2 Base Camp. We do advise you to do your own research and decide for yourself if you wish to join this trek. We recommend taking travel advice from the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) rather than the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) as they are better resourced. Both the FCO and the DFA advise against travelling the Karakoram Highway (KKH), however, we are hopeful they will downgrade this advice soon. We will only take the KKH in the event that the internal flights from Islamabad to Skardu and Skardu to Islamabad are cancelled due to weather.

For more information on security in Pakistan click here for the FCO and here for the DFA. We require all participants travelling on this expedition to sign a disclaimer form.

we are planning to run two treks to K2 Base Camp starting at the same time. K2 Base Camp & Gondogoro La trek requires mountaineering skills to cross this pass. Whereas for K2 Base Camp & Concordia this is a high altitude walk where no technical skills are required and you walk back down Baltoro glacier from Concordia. Please get in touch with us if you would like to discuss requirements to join these treks.
